Gastrointestinal endoscopy is an important diagnostic and therapeutic tool in a large number of conditions involving the gastrointestinal tract. These procedures including upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) are relatively safe and well-tolerated in the general population.
