Despite considerable overlap between symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), these disorders are regarded as separate entities with distinct diagnostic criteria and pathophysiologic underpinnings. However, the boundaries separating these 2 disorders have recently become somewhat blurred.
