Patients who have undergone allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplants (bone marrow transplants [BMT]) are more susceptible to gastrointestinal complications, like graft-versus-host disease (GVHD).1 Diarrhea is relatively common after a BMT and can be related to medication side effects (ie, antibiotic-induced diarrhea), radiation side effects, infections, or GVHD. GVHD is most likely to affect the skin and the liver, but can have devastating effects when it impacts the gastrointestinal tract or the hematopoietic system.
