Patient satisfaction with facial and nose appearance and quality of life following rhinoplasty was measureable through the use of the FACE-Q patient-reported outcome instrument, according to study results published in the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal.
The FACE-Q survey was completed by 56 patients at their preoperative consultations and/or postoperative follow-up visits. Fourteen patients completed the survey before and after rhinoplasty.
Researchers surveyed patients on the FACE-Q scales of satisfaction with facial appearance, social function, psychological well-being and satisfaction with nose.
Overall results showed FACE-Q scores increased significantly after rhinoplasty with regard to satisfaction with facial appearance, social function and psychological well-being, according to the researchers. FACE-Q scores also increased in those who completed the survey before and after the procedure.
These results indicates patients undergoing rhinoplasty were overwhelmingly satisfied with their surgery results, according to the researchers. Additionally, by using the FACE-Q, surgeons can subjectively evaluate their ability to deliver a satisfactory result. - by Abigail Sutton
