A lower lip twice the size of the upper lip was determined to be the most attractive ratio, according to results of a recent study.
The researchers assessed the most attractive lip dimensions of a cohort of 100 white women in terms of surface area, ratio of upper to lower lip and dimensions of the lip surface compared with the lower third of the face. A cohort of 150 observers looked at images of 20 women. From this observation, the researchers created five lip surface areas. In the second phase of the study, four variants for the 15 most attractive images were created and observed by 428 participants. The third phase of the study included an assessment of the ratio between the lip and lower third of the face.
Results indicated that 14 images with the surface area in the range of 2 to 2.5 X 104 pixels achieved the highest rank.
A 53.5% increase in lip surface area from the original image was determined to be the most attractive. In terms of proportion, a ratio of 1:2 upper to lower lip was determined to be most attractive, whereas a ratio of 2:1 was deemed to be least attractive.
A lip surface area equal to 9.6% of the lower third of the face was found to be the most attractive ratio. – by Rob Volansky
