Adults who drink alcohol to alleviate mood symptoms may be at an increased risk for developing alcohol dependence, according to new study results.
"Individuals who report feeling depressed or have other types of mood symptoms should be clinically evaluated to assess whether treatment is indicated, but should not drink in order to help themselves feel better," study researcher Rosa M. Crum, MD, MHS, of Johns Hopkins University, told Psychiatric Annals.
