Submitted Bill Seeks to Amend O&P Accreditation in Social Security Act

  • February 20, 2012

Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) submitted a bill to the Committee on Finance to amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act.

The bill would modify the designation of accreditation organizations for orthotics and prosthetics. The bill would apply accreditation and licensure requirements to suppliers of O&P devices for purposes of payment under the Medicare program. It would also modify the payment rules for these devices to account for practitioner qualifications and the complexity of care.

The bill is currently in the first step of the legislative process.
