ACDF may be more effective than cervical corpectomy

March 5, 2015

Researchers investigating the outcomes of anterior cervical discectomy and fusion for the treatment of cervical spondylotic myelopathy found the procedure was more effective than anterior cervical corpectomy and fusion for the same disorder.

Using several electronic search databases, the researchers identified 13 randomized, controlled studies comprising 1,062 patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM), including 468 patients who underwent  anterior cervical corpectomy and fusion (ACCF) and 594 patients who underwent anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). STATA 12.0 software was used to perform a meta-analysis of the outcomes, and crude standard mean difference (SMD) or odds ratio with 95% confidence intervals were calculated.
