Addition of epinephrine to irrigation fluid linked with better visual clarity for shoulder arthroscopy
May 4, 2016

In most common types of therapeutic shoulder arthroscopy, the addition of epinephrine to irrigation fluid significant improved visual clarity, according to results.

Researchers randomly assigned 101 patients undergoing arthroscopic shoulder surgery to receive either 0.33 mg of epinephrine diluted per liter of saline irrigation fluid or regular saline irrigation fluid. Researchers used a Numeric Rating Scale to rate visual clarity and registered total operation time, total use of irrigation fluid, increases in pump pressure, heart rate, blood pressure and electrocautery use.
