WALTHAM, Mass. — A proprietary Avedro procedure combining LASIK with accelerated corneal cross-linking has been granted approval for use in Canada, according to a company press release.
The 2-minute Lasik Xtra procedure is performed in conjunction with standard LASIK to restore strength and biomechanical integrity to the cornea, the release said. It uses Avedro's KXL system for ultraviolet A radiation along with riboflavin ophthalmic solution.
"Avedro has the only cross-linking products specifically approved in Canada for performing Lasik Xtra, and we are pleased to enable this procedure for a growing number of ophthalmologists and their LASIK patients," David Muller, PhD, CEO of Avedro, said
in the release.
Avedro gained the European CE mark approval for Lasik Xtra earlier this month. The procedure is not available in the United States.
