  • With approximately 1.75 million people affected by AMD and that number expected to nearly double by 2020, physicians will begin to see an increasing number of patients requesting interventions that can reduce their risk for AMD-associated vision loss This Ocular Surgery News supplement focuses on studies that support the use of nutritional therapy to reduce the risk of development of advanced AMD. Content in this supplement is based on presentations given at OSN Hawaiian Eye 2012. Faculty members have thoroughly reviewed the articles. Topics include a review of AREDS; AREDS2 design and rationale; and how the results of these two studies can help physicians educate patients on how to manage their risk factors and modify their lifestyles to reduce the risk for development of advanced AMD.
