Mediterranean diet helped men lower LDL, regardless of weight loss

Men with metabolic syndrome who adhered to a heart-healthy Mediterranean diet experienced reductions in LDL levels, regardless of whether they lost weight, according to study results presented at the American Heart Association’s Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology Scientific Sessions.

Researchers examined the effect of a Mediterranean diet, with and without concurrent weight loss, on several features of LDL metabolism. The study included 19 men aged 24 to 62 years with metabolic syndrome.
