Vitamin D levels predicted inflammation, short-term mortality risk

BRUSSELS — Low 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels provided a prognostic marker for short-term, but not long-term, mortality risk and were associated with excess inflammation in HIV-positive patients.

However, low levels did not predict risk of nonfatal clinical events.
