MSLT-1: Sentinel-node biopsy improved DFS, staging in melanoma

NEW YORK — In this video, Robert H.I. Andtbacka, MD, CM, FACS, FRCSC, discusses final results of the MSLT-1 trial which indicated that sentinel lymph node biopsy after wide excision improved DFS compared with wide excision alone among patients with intermediate and thick melanomas.

While researchers observed no significant difference in disease-specific survival between patients with wide excision alone vs. wide excision followed by sentinel-node biopsy, patients with intermediate-thickness and thick melanomas who received sentinel-node biopsy exhibited improved DFS.
