With the help of a $25 million grant through the Affordable Care Act, the Department of Health and Human Services announced that states can better their abilities to provide seniors and people with disabilities access to home and community-based, long-term health care services and support.
Additionally, the Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration (VHA) will make $27 million available over 3 years in Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC)-funded states through VA medical centers. During the next 1 to 3 years, funding will support ADRCs in almost every state, according a press release.
We want these programs to serve as high-performing one-stop shop models across the country, Marilyn Tavenner, CMS acting administrator, said in the release.
To start, eight states will be selected to develop the initiative during the next 3 years before expanding further, allowing agencies to implement improved long-term services and support programs for older adults, people with disabilities and veterans with disabilities.
