  • Hypertension is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease and contributed to approximately 54,186 deaths in 2004. Physicians must be aware of effective strategies to manage hypertension and reduce the burden of this disease. Blood pressure control is suboptimal in patients with hypertension, despite the availability of effective therapies and new clinical evidence to guide management.
